Become a Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) in Japan

  • Submission of resume and documentary requirements

  • Pre-medical examination to ensure the candidate is fit to proceed application
  • Japanese Language Training at Training Centers (JLPT N4 or JFT-Basic Courses)

    • Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese (JFT-Basic) or the N4 level Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT N4)
    • Prometric Exam (SSW Skills Evaluation Test) in the relevant industry
  • Ensures candidate is still fit to work in Japan
  • Collecting and Processing of Documentary Requirements
  • Signing of contract between worker and Japanese employer
  • Application for Certificate of Eligibility (COE) in Japan
  • Visa application to the Japanese Embassy upon COE issuance
  • Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS)
  • Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS)
  • E-Registration and processing of Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC)
  • Registration to Onray’s E-chat
  • Onsite Job Orientation

Others:

  • After contract completion, workers contract maybe renewed or terminated at the employers’ discretion
  • Contract Renewal: 1-year or multi-year contract with option to renew (up to 5 years under SSW1) while the worker is still in Japan
  • Possible upgrade to SSW2 (no time limit) depending on job category and experience
  • Termination of Contract: Worker will return to the Philippines upon clearance

  • Passing the JFT-Basic or JLPT N4 + Skills Test is mandatory before deployment.
  • No Sending Organization is required for SSW (unlike the TITP program).
  • COE and visa processing can only start after the employer and worker sign the contract.
  • DMW processing must happen before deployment for legal overseas employment.
